Climate Countdown – Bristol’s Contribution to the 350 International…
On Saturday 24th October TCW joined forces with Oxfam and Christian Aid to deliver a one day concert as part of an international day of climate action Climate Countdown was one of 5,200 events that took place in 181 countries – quite simply the most widespread day of political action in the planet’s history. The day was driven by www.350.org and the aim was to raise awareness of 350 – the safe level of carbon dioxide (parts per million) in the earths atmosphere, currently we are on 397 and rising. On a scale unimaginable we have shown world leaders that what we all want is a safe and fair global climate deal at Copenhagen in December this year. Estimates of attendance to Climate Countdown range from 2000-5000 which again is evident of the desire of people to make our voices heard. It was great to see such a good turn-out in Bristol so thank you to everyone for helping to make the day a memorable one that counts. We were overwhelmed by the amazing show of support offered by all of the bands, speakers, performers, volunteers and the public on the day – without all of you the day would not have been possible. Our hope was that by using music and celebrating the positive things that are happening in Bristol around climate change we would be able to reach a much wider audience. We feel as though this was achieved. Our challenge now is to keep the momentum and energy going up to the talks this December in Copenhagen and beyond. From our home on the 3rd Floor of the Arnolfini Building, TCW is organising Bristol’s very own CoP15 which will include a packed 2 weeks of events including workshops, seminars and a live link to the climate talks at CoP15, in Copenhagen. The event will take place between December 7th and 18th and full details of the programme will be available in due course.
